Ubiquitin-based drug discovery is at the exciting initial stage - much like that of kinases and phosphatases fifteen years ago. Enzymes such as deubiquitylating enzymes (DUBs) and ubiquitin ligases, like phosphatases and kinases, play key roles in the control of cellular signal transduction pathways. We believe that ubiquitin is therefore the next leading technology for drug discovery and diagnostics.
